Ghoul’s Best Friend is a reverse-horror game where you play as the loyal dog of a recently deceased owner, haunting their home and trying to scare off the new tenants who had begun moving in. By interacting with objects around the house, players can trigger events and time it just right to pull off the perfect scare.
I was responsible for all of the game's art, from initial concept sketches to the environmental assets, team portraits, and logo. This was my first experience really working on a collaborative game project, my first time using Aseprite, and one of my earliest attempts at creating more complex animations.
The game's monochromatic blue palette was a style that had started to become a signature of my work after Spoons. It helped give the game a gloomy atmosphere without losing its playful, cartoonish charm. The pixel art style wasn't chosen purely for aesthetics; it also supported the reverse-horror concept by keeping the tone lighthearted and approachable, making it fun to be the one doing the haunting rather than being haunted. It also reflected the popularity of pixel art games at the time, helping the project feel both familiar and visually distinct.
